Wessel + O’Connor Fine Art is pleased to present
the first ever solo exhibition of photographer Brandon Herman. Entitled
“Schooldayz," the work portrays many of his friends,
lovers, and former college classmates in emotionally wrought works
bursting with passion. These charged scenarios show their subjects,
usually alone, dealing with the angst which their burgeoning sexuality
causes them in their greater acceptance into the world around them.

They are absorbed in their own intensely private worlds, whether
it be flexing in a mirror, contemplating a baseball in bed, or skateboarding
nude at night. Herman's talent as a photographer lies in managing
to get his models to bare their souls as well as their bodies to
              us.

Heavily influenced by film, his works are in essence a projection
of his own fantasies, revealed to us through his models. As critic
Franklin Melendez has said of his work: "it’s less about
perfection, than that inherent tension (most evident in his frontal
portraits) between a photographer’s vision and that elusive
subject, slipping inexorably just beyond reach" that gives
              the work it's catalytic charge.
Brandon Herman's work has been seen in publications such as Dazed
and Confused and V Magazine, and in shows in Palm Beach and Nolita.
He is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. He lives
and works in New York City.
